Hello everyone, I found a very old (circa 2014) bitcoin wallet backup. It's called "wallet backup" with no extension. I was mining on Linux at one point but left bitcoin alone for a bit. It looks like a text file with 900+ lines of random text and over 69,000 random characters. Any idea how to access it? No, I won't copy and paste it. Thanks in advance for any genuine help. Edit: the exact filename is bitcoin-wallet-backup
So, today just by chance I came across a text file I created in 2014 that just said Bitcoin. I vaguely remember buying some Bitcoin at the time. The file itself is just a PGP cypher, containing a private and public key. However, I'm quite new to this and don't know how to check if I have any Bitcoins from back then. Is there any way for me to check? If so how? And if there are any, is there any chance I can still recover it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. So I'm trying to find my old Bitcoin Wallets that I made around 2012, I know I had a decent amount of bitcoins..
This has been so hard trying to find my old bitcoin wallets & the wallet providers, I know I had about 3-6 wallets at this time. And I'm sure I had at least $100 in total in them ( I'm sure it could be much more though). Knowing that I could have dozens of thousands worth of bitcoins keeps me motivated to find the wallets. But having numerous email addresses & passwords its so hard to find the right one's. I probably wrote the logins somewhere but its been so long idk if I threw them away or not. Anyone in the same boat that could potentially help ??
Can anyone give me the rundown on the likleyhood that I can get my bitcoin cash from an old prefork bitcoin wallet? The Bitcoin was sent out of the wallet after the fork, but I never accessed the bitcoin cash at all. I may have backups of the old wallet file if that makes a difference.
Years ago... I put two bitcoins in a paper wallet using bitaddress. Haven’t touched it in years. I tried scanning with BRD and JAXX... but I get an error code. When I look at the blockchain for BCH... it says that it is there. Is my private key beginning with a 5 outdated or wrong format? Any advice?
Have an old Bitcoin wallet.. No idea what application I created it with but can't open it. Can someone help me?
(Throw away for obvious reasons) Hi /Bitcoin! Today I found an old wallet on my old computer's harddrive; but I need help opening it. When running bitcoin core I get the following error: https://i.imgur.com/rWSkGwG.png Here's what my Bitcoin folder looks like: https://i.imgur.com/zjoJQzu.png As you can see I've had this wallet since sometime in 2012. No idea if there's coins inside, no idea what the password could be.. But as of right now I can't open it. Does anyone have an idea on wallets I could try? Anyone seen this error before? Edit: Upon opening it with a new version of the Bitcoin Core wallet and no arguments it worked, but when I clicked Receive -> Put address into Blockchain.info it showed the address as no transactions ever took place. Did I do something wrong or should I try something else instead of waiting for it to sync? Edit2: New Post https://www.reddit.com/Bitcoin/comments/7zgzz9/found_a_linux_harddrive_and_want_to_find_my_btc/ Edit3: I'm still working to open this wallet. I'm syncing the full chain on BTC core and I'm going to move the wallet.dat into my appdata/bitcoin folder one more time and hope it works for some reason (even though I'm syncing the chain on the current same wallet.dat right now)
With my new Trezor on the way, what is the best way, to move my old Bitcoin wallet.dat into the Trezor?
Hey guys, so I finally bought myself a hardware wallet and the Model T is on its way. Now, I still have my old wallet.dat file from the Bitcoin Core client (encrypted). What is the best way of importing the associated Bitcoins to my new Trezor address? (I say importing, but of course I know that I need to send them, because I will have a new address). I would like to not have to sync the entire blockchain, if possible. Also the wallet is from before the Bitcoin Cash fork, so I'd also like to move my Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold and whatever other relevant forks there are onto my new Trezor addresses. Are there any guides that apply to my situation including the forks?
Found a very old bitcoin wallet, uncertain of contents
I recently dusted off an old laptop and noticed a bitcoin wallet on it. It shows three transactions:
5 bitcoin received
3 bitcoin sent
0.01 bitcoin sent
Leaving a balance of 1.99 bitcoin. However, the Balance shows 0.00 BTC, with Unconfirmed: 1.99. The Wallet also say it's "out of sync". Can I recover these 1.99 BTC? What's the deal here Edit: It also shows a message "URGENT: Alert key compromised, upgrade required." 2nd Edit: The wallet is bitcoin-qt, and the first 2 transactions are from 2011, the 3rd from 2014. No clue when it was last upgraded.
I found this old bitcoin wallet that I used to use on my iphone. I didn't realize i made a backup of the private key till now. The problem is it's BIP38. What do I do? I think that means it has another password on it, and i'm sure I can guess that password within a few tries - but I don't know how to get far enough to be asked the password. What do I do?
